"Sakura"
The enterprise for radioactive waste management "RosRAO" intends to install a false deck on the transport floating dock "Sakura". According to FlotProm, such modernization will allow for the disposal of the reactor compartments of decommissioned nuclear submarines at the floating dock, as well as the repair of ships.
It is planned to spend no more than 15 million rubles for the additional equipment of Sakura, and the work should be completed on December 15 of this year. According to the director of the Far East center "DalRAO" Konstantin Sidenko, the installation of the false deck will be carried out by the Nakhodka shipyard.
As a result of the modernization at Sakura, it will be possible to begin work on cutting reactor three-compartment blocks of nuclear submarines right during their transportation to a special long-term storage site. At present such work cannot be carried out on a floating dock; it is used so far only for the transportation of reactor compartments.
The Sakura floating dock was handed over to Russia by Japan in 2012 as part of an international program for the disposal of decommissioned nuclear submarines. In addition to the dock, Russia also received a sea tug "Sumire" and two harbor cranes with a lifting capacity of ten and 30 tons. The total cost of this equipment was about two billion rubles.
