Psibernetix, founded by graduates of the University of Cincinnati, developed the Alpha artificial intelligence system, which won a simulated aerial combat on a military expert's simulator. This was reported on the university website.

As part of the tests, the Alpha algorithm was tested by retired Air Force Colonel Gene Lee, who has been training military pilots as an expert and has been testing similar systems for more than 30 years. As part of testing, the expert never managed to hit a computer opponent and did not manage to escape unharmed - the artificial intelligence always knocked down the colonel.

Alpha was tested by other military pilots who were also defeated. At the same time, the system surpassed a person in battle even with a deliberate deterioration in the characteristics of its aircraft - despite the reduced speed, maneuverability, ammunition and accuracy of the data obtained compared to the enemy, the algorithm still won.

As Jin Lee noted, Alpha proved to be "the most aggressive, responsive, agile and believable" of all computer opponents known to the expert. According to him, all the previous systems known to him could not compete with humans in conditions of intense air combat and "shot down" experienced pilots extremely rarely.

In the future, the developers plan to train Alpha on other military pilots, after which they expect to use artificial intelligence to control a real aircraft. It is assumed that such a drone will not only be able to fight faster and more efficiently than humans, but will also be able to perform missions in conjunction with other drones or manned aircraft.
