Delphi and Mobileye have teamed up to develop a universal self-driving vehicle control system. The final version of the platform will be presented in 2019, but the current prototype will be demonstrated in January 2017 at the international CES exhibition, according to IEEE Spectrum.

The developed platform is designed to be installed on different vehicles. With this system, the car will be equipped with Level 4 autonomous driving technology - fully autonomous movement on public roads, except in special cases such as difficult weather conditions.

Separately, it is reported about the possible implementation in the future and the fifth level of unmanned driving - in this case, the car, in principle, does not imply any intervention of the driver in the control, regardless of the circumstances. However, as noted by the IEEE Spectrum, such statements today do not look too believable. Google experts, for example, note that, depending on environmental conditions, such a completely self-driving car may appear in five years for well-studied areas with warm climates or in a few decades for circumpolar regions.

The Israeli company Mobileye specializes in the development and production of auxiliary security systems, including those using image recognition technologies. In particular, the company participated in the development of similar systems for Tesla electric vehicles. After the Tesla Model S autopilot was first involved in a fatal accident, Mobileye said that Tesla's control system at this stage is not able to independently cope with such a situation on the road. Later it became known that Mobileye would end cooperation with Tesla and would work with BMW and Intel on a self-driving car project, which is scheduled to be presented by 2021.

British company Delphi is developing self-driving cars that are testing on public roads in California. In 2015, a self-driving vehicle equipped with Delphi software and car parts crossed the United States from the west to the east coast. The company will also participate in a pilot project of an unmanned taxi in Singapore's One-north business park. The pilot project will start in 2017 and will run for three years, and by 2022 the Singapore authorities plan to launch a commercial self-driving taxi service.

In addition to Delphi, Mobileye, Intel and BMW, other companies intend to establish the production of self-driving cars in the region of 2020. Ford plans to start mass production of self-driving cars by 2021, and Toyota has promised to complete development of self-driving cars for public roads by 2020. Also, a consultant for the Google Self-Driving Car project previously reported on the possible production of self-driving cars in 2018.
